map of Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico

Cancun was the earliest resort area developed on the Yucatan Peninsula. The hotels on hotel zone strip are all lined up with the white sand of the Caribbean Sea on the front and the Nichupte Lagoon behind. Cancun thrives as one of the hottest leisure destinations anywhere because of resorts, recreation, nightlife, world class shopping and restaurants.

Starting just 45 minutes South of the Cancun Airport is Riviera Maya which runs from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum. This includes the resort areas of Xcaret, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Xel-Ha. Riviera Maya combines easy access to the pleasures of Cancun and Cozumel from an unspoiled and uncrowded setting. Riviera Maya is the perfect setting for those who prefer a more low-key experience than is typically found in Cancun for Families and Honeymooners.

Cozumel is an easy going island that was introduced to the World by Jacques Cousteau in the 1960s and it is still one of the best dive destinations in all of Mexico with the Chakanaab and Palancar Reefs just offshore of your hotel. Featuring easy going Mexican hospitality and natural beauty, but you are just 19 miles away from Cancun by ferry. The town of San Miguel has over 100 restaurants so grab a cerveza and do some people watching.

If you prefer a more remote setting with ferry access back to Cancun, try the Isla Mujeres (Island of Women). This laid back and comfortable island invites you to try its many watersports or just stretch out on the soft white sand beaches along the deep turquoise waters.
